Iraq Summer Kentucky "Iraq Summer Kentucky" is part of a national nonpartisan campaign whose goal to put pressure on key members of Congress so that they cease to support President Bush's reckless, endless war in Iraq. We advocate a safe, responsible withdrawal from Iraq. In Kentucky, we are urging Senator Mitch McConnell to take a stand for our troops by voting to bring them home. 'Take A Stand' events On Tuesday 8/28, "Iraq Summer" will conclude with hundreds of 'Take A Stand" events. Across the U.S., we will be holding vigils, rallies, and town meetings where we will be asking our senators and congresspersons to take a stand with the great majority of Americans who want a safe and responsible redeployment of American forces from Iraq. In Kentucky, there will be three 'Take A Stand" events: one in Louisville, one in Northern Kentucky, and ours in Lexington. 'Take A Stand' in Lexington's Phoenix Park We will Take A Stand by maintaining a vigil on the sidewalks outside Lexington's Phoenix Park from 5 p.m. Monday 8/27 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday 8/28. At the beginning and end of the vigil we will have programs featuring speakers and music. At 8 p.m. Monday we will have a ceremonial lighting of luminarias to honor the 61 Kentuckians who have fallen in Iraq. You'll soon be able to click here to see a complete list of the speakers and musicians who will be helping us Take A Stand.
